Product Description
We are now taking orders for muscadine vines.
*** Muscadine vines ship from late November through April ***
*** We ship to colder states beginning in late March and early April UNLESS you request it to ship earlier.
If you live above Virginia, please tell us in the comments if you would like your muscadine order shipped ASAP or if you prefer for us to ship in April 2025.
** Tip: To receive your muscadine vines the fastest – we recommend placing an order for muscadine vines on an order all by themselves. (When other plants and trees are in the order we will wait until everything is ready before we ship. This saves on shipping costs. Some trees will not be in dormancy until January, and this can cause a delay.)

The Sugargate muscadine is the earliest ripening black muscadine available. This muscadine has excellent flavor with large fruit and edible skin. The muscadine vine is very vigorous and disease resistant. Developed at Ison’s Nursery. Patent Protected #5831. NOTE: This is a female variety that must be planted within 50 feet of a self-fertile variety in order to produce fruit.
Variety Spotlight:
Sugargate is an early ripening black female that we released here at our nursery. Jumbo was the only large black fruited muscadine before Sugargate. Jumbo is a very large fruit, but it ripens late in the season and has to be very ripe before it is sweet.
Sugargate’s release was important for 2 reasons. First of all, at the time it was the earliest ripening black variety available. It is also extremely sweet.
I have eaten my share of muscadines and the sweet flavor of Sugargate is the sweetest of all muscadines. Sugargate has some drawbacks. Every 3 years it tends to put on a lighter crop than normal. Gulf coast areas with sandy soil experienced low yields.
I am often asked which is my favorite muscadine. My answer is that if I knew I was about to leave this world and could only eat one before I left, it would be Sugargate.

Adding BLUE-X Plant Shelters to your muscadine vines. BLUE-X Grapevine Shelters create a beneficial microclimate for each grapevine. The increased humidity and carbon dioxide levels in the growtubes accelerate plant growth and enhance vine survival. This will increase vine growth up to 150% the first year and will increase fruit yields your first harvest season. As an added benefit they protect young vines from rodents, rabbits and other herbivores.
We offer the only shelter on the market today that takes advantage of beneficial blue light!
It’s a small cost but offers a big reward for your vineyard.
